Denisa’s practice focuses on a broad range of complex commercial litigation claims, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, director and officer liability claims, shareholder oppression claims, private equity transactions and securities related issues.
Denisa obtained her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School. While at law school, Denisa practiced criminal law as a Division Leader at the Osgoode Community & Legal Aid Services Programme under the supervision of practitioners. She was also a Co-Chair of the Osgoode Women’s Caucus (currently, the Osgoode Feminist Collective) and a team member in the Donald G.H. Bowman National Tax Moot. At law school, Denisa was awarded the Charles Edward Woodrow Award for academic achievement.
Prior to joining Thornton Grout Finnigan LLP, Denisa was a summer student and articling student at a large international law firm and she was also an associate at a securities litigation boutique.
- Junior counsel representing the 630,000 non-mutual policy holders of Economical Mutual Insurance Company in negotiations over $2 billion in expected demutualization benefits arising from Economical’s demutualization.
- Junior litigation counsel on a secondary market misrepresentation class action involving the misrepresentation of mining data in continuous disclosure documents.
- Part of a team advising a defendant in one of Canada’s largest securities fraud class actions and in respect of related Ontario Securities Commission proceedings.
- Part of a team that secured a $10 million judgment on behalf of a large international bank in an action for fraud against an Ontario borrower and its principals.
