Kirsten is TGF's research and knowledge management lawyer and also maintains a commercial litigation practice. She provides legal opinions and analyses of the complex legal issues that arise in the civil litigation and corporate/commercial context. Kirsten drafts facta and memoranda for all levels of court, and has provided legal advice on significant commercial transactions. She has special experience in debtor-creditor law, constitutional law, technology law and health law.

Prior to joining TGF, Kirsten worked at another major law firm where she practiced health law and IT/IP litigation. She also spent three years as in-house counsel to an IT company, where she negotiated, drafted and enforced a wide variety of software, hardware and services agreements.

REPRESENTATIVE WORK

  • Member of the litigation team representing U.S. Steel Canada in its defence against the first prosecution under the Investment Canada Act
  • Supported counsel involved in the City of Mississauga Judicial Inquiry in respect of novel issues arising out of the scope of the Inquiry and the unique legislation under which it was brought
  • Participated in litigation team as counsel to the Chief Restructuring Advisor of Canwest Media Inc. in respect of certain CCAA claims
  • Member of the litigation team representing Hollinger in its pursuit of claims against its former advisers and directors
  • Advised the court-appointed monitor in the restructuring of the Canada AbitibiBowater entities and subsequent litigation at the Supreme Court of Canada
  • Regularly advises on complex Commercial List matters

Kirsten is also responsible for Knowledge Management at the firm, conducting in-house seminars and discussions as part of the firm's continuing legal education program. She monitors developments and emerging issues in the law and industry, particularly in the areas of insolvency, commercial litigation, and contract. She writes or edits many of the firm's current awareness publications and is head of the firm's precedent committee.

Kirsten is a member of The Advocates' Society, INSOL International, the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations and the Toronto Opinions Group.
